As a geeky introvert who has made a grand effort to create a geeky safe space to call home, it’s hard to have people I don’t know over. It’s like allowing the unknown into my home. Who are you? What do you like? What if you hate everything I love? Now you’re in my space and we’re both uncomfortable.

I’ve spent so much of my life trying to fit in and not really being myself that I have completely lost interest in all pretense. So whenever someone wants to come over who doesn’t understand the way of the geek I get a bit of anxiety at having to entertain in my safe space while not completely being myself.

Does anyone feel the same way? How do you entertain when you don’t know someone in your party?

Five Geeky Playlists for this Spooky Season

Let's spread the geekiness!

It’s safe to say that my music preferences do not change much from year to year. I adopt new songs and playlists into my repertoire based on what I’ve watched and love at the time, but the type of music stays the same. I love seasonal music and have collected quite a few playlists and soundtracks over the years. So for October, I wanted to share some of my spookier favorites with you. Some of these playlists and soundtracks may be a bit spooky, some creepy – it really depends on the day and my mood. I’ll even throw in a couple cozy ones for those days when you’re not feeling particularly scary. But if you love music as much as I do, you’ll want to keep reading for the five geeky playlists for this spooky season.

*As of the writing of this post, I am not a Spotify Affiliate. I have been a super happy Premium Member of Spotify since 2017 and will honestly probably never use another platform. I have discovered all my favorite music there with the help of their amazing algorithm and that makes us best friends. Probably lol. If my status ever changes, I will be sure to let you know; but for now, just know that I promote them because I love the service they have provided me for the last 6 years.

Five Geeky Playlists For This Spooky Season

This was a bit harder than I initially thought it would be. Sure, let me just list five geeky albums or soundtracks I think you all will love. But just five? I went down so many rabbit holes just listening to the playlists I already follow and then discovering new songs from those playlists…

Okay, here’s what we’ll do: we’ll use categories. I think that will be the easiest way to keep this list short – I don’t want to overwhelm you, after all. Of course, you can follow my This Geeked Out Spotify account for even more soundtracks, geeky playlists and albums, and podcasts. I curate that account especially for you guys!

Geeky movie playlist for the spooky season

As you have probably read somewhere on this blog before, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a seasonal favorite of ours. So much so, in fact, that we use concepts and ideas from the movie to decorate our home for fall. By tweaking the colors a bit, we make it ours, crafting and DIY-ing decor to add to the geekiness. All of this while listening to the movie soundtrack.

We like the Nightmare Before Christmas Special Edition, and often play it on repeat while singing along until our decorating is done. The music is taken straight from the film, and always gets us in the Fall-Halloween-Christmas spirit. It’s like prepping us for the entire holiday season.

Geeky spooky Anime (Manga) soundtrack

Coming up on the blog is a post with some of my top fall anime recommendations for you to try, and (spoiler alert) at the top of that list is The Ancient Magus’ Bride. A new season was just released this month on Crunchyroll and I am so excited to be back in the company of Elias, Chise, Silky, and Ruth!

Even better is finding the full soundtracks for each season by Junichi Matsumoto, a classically trained composer and arranger for Japanese media, who composed the music for The Ancient Magus’ Bride. I added all three of the soundtracks to the playlist folder and I hope you enjoy them as much as I am.

Geeky spooky TV series soundtrack

I have many series and episodes to catch up on. I wish I could dedicate an entire day to a television marathon for all the things I’ve missed. But the way my schedule is set up… And the way that other people enjoy making demands of your time at their convenience… I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

Either way, Wednesday is at the top of my list of favorite new TV series this year, and the soundtrack will not disappoint. While I, like many fans, loved the dance scene, my favorite is when she plays Paint It Black on her cello on her patio. Besides the cello being one of my favorite instruments, I also love the original song by Metallica. Her rendition is just *chef’s kiss*.

This may have jumped up to the top of my fall listening list. Don’t tell Jack or Sally.

Geeky spooky video game soundtrack

While I haven’t yet started this video game, I have listened to the hauntingly serene soundtrack. The music for Little Nightmares is creepy but strangely calming, and I’ve added it to my list of favorites, as well. This is not a review for the game, but if you’re interested, Little Nightmares is a dark whimsical tale about a vessel called the Maw, which is inhabited by corrupted souls looking for their next meal. Sounds spooky, right?

Public Geeky Playlists for this Spooky Season

Spotify has some pretty decent playlists, as well, and this one came to me as a suggested listen. While there are many things I will not be watching from this list, I am always ready to listen to something new.

Netflix and Chills does not go easy on the chills – the music on this playlist includes songs from some of the network’s featured horror viewing. Me? I don’t like horror movies. No, that doesn’t quite describe how I feel about them:

I absolutely and utterly despise horror movies. What the fright?! As if life wasn’t scary enough, you want me to sit through horrors I don’t even want to see on the news and settle into an hour or two of fear coupled with high blood pressure and panic attacks? Why?

Okay, so now that you know how I really feel, I have a compromise. The music. As long as I don’t have to see it, I love a good scary playlist. So this was a good way to live the horror dreams I never wanted all while never having to see the actual thing on my screen.

Ever.

Spooky playlists that are new to me

Sometimes Spotify will recommend or play a suggested song for me and it will send me into a deep rabbit hole of searching for information on an artist, song, or show I didn’t know about. That’s what happened when I heard the creepiest Ring Around the Rosie version I have ever listened to. It wasn’t your typical rendition, either; this was eerie and felt like I had accidentally stumbled into a horror scene.

I mean, it even had me looking over my shoulder.

So I stopped what I was doing and searched for the artist’s page. That’s when I discovered the Nightmare Nursery Rhymes playlist by Scott Reinwand and decided to give that a listen. You will definitely recognize the songs, and they will change the way you look at your childhood. Kind of like Parcast’s telling of childhood Fairy Tales the way they were actually written did for me.

I totally jumped.

Horror-podcast for this spooky season

I love a good podcast. It’s probably completely fair to say I’m addicted to true crime, history, and mostly fictional audio dramas. I’ve listened to too many to name here that I think you all would love, but for this post, try a creepy thriller-horror about a driving game. The Left Right Game features Tessa Thomspon (Marvel’s Valkyrie in Thor!) who gets involved with a group of paranormal explorers in a game that is too bizarre to explain here.

If you’re interested in other fictional podcasts to get you through your chores or workout, let me know in the comments below and I’ll get some up for you to try.

Bonus: Playlists created by me

This is the perfect season to be the villain, so I put together a more geeky-adjacent playlist for those who want to listen to more mainstream music. It includes songs from Billie Eilish as well as any music that gives the impression of villainy. Because villains aren’t born, they’re made! I called it My Villain Era and I have really enjoyed listening to it.

All of these playlists, soundtracks, albums, and songs (except for My Villain Era and the Left Right Game podcast) have been collected into one titan-sized playlist for easy listening. You can find the Geeky Fall Music for Spooky Season on Spotify and follow it. I’ll add more geeky spooky music as I find it.

Right! So those are my (more or less) five geeky playlists for this spooky season. Try them out and let me know what you think. And don’t forget to follow me on Spotify so you can try some more geeky-inspired playlists taken from our favorite series, movies, and anime. I update it every week. If you have any suggestions, I’d love to add them as well!

Go listen to some spooky music, you geeks!
