As a geeky introvert who has made a grand effort to create a geeky safe space to call home, it’s hard to have people I don’t know over. It’s like allowing the unknown into my home. Who are you? What do you like? What if you hate everything I love? Now you’re in my space and we’re both uncomfortable.

I’ve spent so much of my life trying to fit in and not really being myself that I have completely lost interest in all pretense. So whenever someone wants to come over who doesn’t understand the way of the geek I get a bit of anxiety at having to entertain in my safe space while not completely being myself.

Does anyone feel the same way? How do you entertain when you don’t know someone in your party?

Geeky Holiday Gift Guide, This Geeked Out Life Blog

Geeky Holiday Gift Guides for your Geeky Friends and Family

Let's spread the geekiness!

Yes. You read that correctly. It’s already time for some geeky holiday gift guides.

I would love to revel in the fall season for as long as possible, sipping my favorite ciders and watching all my favorite cozy anime while snuggled up warm and content on the couch. But alas, social media and the internet won’t let me enjoy my seasons to the fullest. Neither will the required family time that is the Thanksgiving weekend. So it is that time once again to think about the holidays and gifts.

Sigh.

Shopping for others has never been a problem for me. I believe in knowing your loved ones well enough to get them what they love and want, and hubs and I enjoy gifting. The flip side is not as great, unfortunately. Some of the people we love don’t fully understand our likes and passions, or they refuse to; and although shopping for us should be pretty easy, we still find ourselves looking at gifts every year that we have no idea what to do with. Being a geeky couple apparently creates challenges for our friends and family…

Of course I’m thankful for being thought of, but most times I would be okay with a gift card. Or nothing at all.

With that being said, I thought it would be helpful to provide some geeky holiday gift guides for any of you who find yourself shopping for the geeks and fans in your life. Cyber Monday is my preferred time to shop so I can shop from the comfort of my own home, but these guides will get you through the holidays and other annual special occasions (like birthdays). So here is your geeky holiday gift guide. Of sorts.

Where to find the best gifts for your geeky friends and family

Most people aren’t even aware that there are entire stores and companies dedicated to providing geeks with all the things they love. It’s become more popular now because of the constant flow of sci-fi, fantasy, and superhero shows, books, and movies. And companies know that geeks and fans will spend money when they can to buy all the things that represent all the things we love – whether it’s collectibles, books, or clothing. Keep reading for my geeky holiday gift guides for the geeky fan in your life.

Geeky holiday gift guides: Geeky fashion, makeup, and accessories

My preferred style is “if you know, you know” so I like to keep my casual cosplay subtle. That just means I like to wear things that show off what I love, without looking like I’m in costume. Dresses, t-shirts, jewelry, and bags/purses are my favorite way to dress and accessorize for my favorite characters. However, I tend to avoid buying clothing for others because more times than not you won’t get it right.

My advice? Gift cards or accessories. If you want to see your geeky friend or loved one geek out over your gift, then get them an accessory like a bookbag purse, geeky jewelry, or even shoes. You can also find ties with geeky symbols, shirts, and hats. And when all else fails or you’re unsure what the favorite fandom is, a gift card is like free money. And people never forget receiving money!

Geeky holiday gift guides: Video Games

It’s hard to understand gaming until you’ve tried it for yourself. I didn’t quite get the allure until I realized that I could find games that spoke to mindfulness and allowed me to unplug from stressful days for just a moment. Life is hard, so why not solve actual solvable problems in the video game world for an hour or two? It’s called self-care.

So if you have a geeky gamer and you don’t understand their obsession, that’s okay. You don’t have to understand it to know where to get them an amazing gift:

GameStop, console games

Best Buy, console games

Playstation Store, console games

EA (Electronic Arts) Store, PC and console

Steam for PC gamers

Nintendo E shop, console

Microsoft Store, PC

Apple Arcade, PC

Of course, geeks can find stuff mostly anywhere, so if you’re still not sure or you don’t have these places near you, a gift card is the best option. Many people think gift cards are thoughtless gifts, but to me it’s just free money that I can spend on whatever I want. That I’ll appreciate much more than a random piece of home decor that doesn’t match me or my curtains! In fact, when it comes to most anything geeks love a gift card to their favorite store. That takes the pressure off of you to find something they don’t already own, and it takes the pressure off of us to pretend we love something we don’t.

Other places to find cool geeky stuff include Etsy, Society 6, Redbubble, and Spoonflower. If your geek is especially crafty or loves a good DIY, Michaels is also a great place to find what they need. And, of course, there is always Amazon where you can find most anything.

Amazon Lists I have created several Amazon wishlists to act as more geeky holiday gift guides with even more geeky gift ideas for you. Browse the lists and use them for inspiration. Check back often because I will be adding ideas and products throughout the month for your gifting needs – I hope they help! As a reminder, I am an Amazon Affiliate. This means that when you click on a link to purchase an item, I will make a small amount for recommending that item to you. This comes at no extra cost to you, but will definitely help in the maintenance of this blog for you!

2nd & Charles

One of our favorite places to browse and just soak in all the geekiness is 2nd & Charles. We learned of this amazing place after moving here and have since spent many weekend evenings just browsing. They have new and used books, games and toys, video games, collectibles, music, entertainment, graphic novels and comics, and gifts.

We made another trip recently so I could grab some pictures of what they carry in-store. I wanted to share some visuals with you:
